On the heels of the release of his May 2008 album, The Apartment, Fishstick's alter ego Scott Ratinoff returns with a new collection of paintings, The Places That We Live. The collection's watercolors and inks focus on uncovering unexpected beauty in the crowded city.

While the collection is deeply influenced by the pulse of living in Philadelphia, Ratinoff avoided depicting overtly Philadelphian images. (Sorry, Billy Penn.) Instead, street corners morph into a Miro slumber, skylines become a jumbled mess of curves and squares, and a brownstone is scribbled in a caffeinated haze.

The Places That We Live is Ratinoff's third solo show hosted by Lickety Split, and his 7th solo show in Philadelphia.

Ratinoff acknowledges that most visitors don't come to Lickety Split expecting fine art, but he continues to return to the South Street venue because he's found a true artistic community there. He also appreciates the relaxed atmosphere. "Art galleries are fine and all," he says, "but can you get a slice of pizza and a pint of beer at an art gallery?"

Lickety Split is open to the public 7 days a week from 11am-2am

Ratinoff received a Bachelor of Fine Art in Visual Communications from the University of Delaware, and has lived in the same apartment in the Bella Vista section of Philadelphia since graduating in 1998.
